PROLOGUE

Welcome to the ‘Alt of Ideas’ music Blogcast. This is a show where I breakdown tracks from the Indian alternative music space and tell you how musicians create great music. My name is Adithya, and I’ve been producing for the last 7 years. I’ve worked on all sorts of projects, across genres like EDM, Rock, Pop, Funk, Orchestral, and even Acapella, and the more I’ve made, the more I’ve fallen in love with sound design and soundscapes.

In a country like India, alternative music is a relatively new phenomenon. Most of the crowd is young, and that’s good because that means you’re gonna find new ideas, and a risk-taking mindset. Since the 1990s, we’ve seen countless individuals slowly emerge into the spotlight, creating tracks worthy of a place on global music charts. They’ve caught the attention of journalists and music enthusiasts alike, with several outlets already covering their stories and journeys as artists.

However, for people like me, the curiosity doesn’t end at the thematic value of a song or artist. There’s so much more to music making than meets the eye. For example – What instrumentation and arrangement do artists use in their music? How do they craft the sounds that please our ears? What can we learn from their production, and how can we recreate these soundscapes in our own music?

These are but a few of the questions that I hope to address in this show. The plan is that every episode, I’ll share my observations on a song from the indie or alternative catalogue and review its sound design and production, while giving you some ideas of what you can include in your own work, or at the least, what to look out for in other music. Every few days, I’ll post an episode right here on this blog, both as an article for you to read, as well as a podcast that you can listen to on the way to work or school.

The hope is that, whether you’re a musician, a producer, a listener, or someone who can’t type on a keyboard very well and who has ended up on this blog, you’ll be able to learn at least something from my work. If this show inspires you to pay a little closer attention to the music you listen to, then I’ll be the happy.
